12 Female-Owned Businesses We Love

If you’re familiar with our work, you're probably familiar with many of the female-owned businesses we have worked with over the years. We’ve had the pleasure of working with so many incredible female entrepreneurs, leaders, and business owners. These featured businesses and individuals were incredibly generous and donated to our Women’s Month giveaway to lift female-owned businesses and inspire our community. While every business does not run without the support of the men, women, and employees behind them, we want to honour and highlight these powerhouse business owners and share their stories of how women can succeed in business.

Annie Rue Ice Cream - Tanya Rumak

Instagram | Facebook

Annie Rue creates artisan, premium ice cream in the Parkallen neighborhood in Edmonton. When Tanya reached out to us last summer to collaborate on the branding and interior design of her ice cream shop, we immediately scooped up the opportunity ;) We love the story behind the name Annie Rue, and how the ice cream shop was inspired by Tanya’s grandmother and her sweet treats. Tanya made a career change during the pandemic and leaped into entrepreneurship. With a clear vision, a strong sense of community, and delicious ice cream we cannot wait to see Annie Rue Ice Cream succeed!

Atelier Hair Design - Amy Shankar, Melissa Russell, Holly Seera

Atelier thinks of hair as a canvas. They specialize in creating a style that each individual will be able to achieve, maintain, and feel confident wearing every day. Atelier was founded by trio Amy, Melissa, and Holly who have been in the industry for over two decades and are experts in their craft. When they took the leap to start Atelier, they reached out to us to design their logo, stationery, and website. We love Atelier's ethos of working with like-minded companies that respect the environment and diversity. Each owner brings a wealth of knowledge that allows them to be versatile and cater to almost everybody!

Buff Wax Spot / Buff Experts - Sina Zere

Sina started Buff Wax Spot by working backward from the client experience. She wanted everyone of all shapes and colours to enjoy these services. Sina started Edmonton's original full-body wax bar at Buff Wax Spot and now offers products globally on her e-commerce store, Buff Experts. We're inspired by Sina’s drive and vision for her business and can’t wait to help her grow her business. We are currently working with Sina on improving facets of her Shopify site for Buff Experts - so be sure to keep an eye out!

Little Birdy Pottery - Renee Fundytus

Instagram | Facebook

Little Birdy Pottery is a pottery studio that creates jewelry with intention and meaning. Each design is created by hand around a shape and a meaning behind it. We’ve recently had the pleasure of helping Renee redesign her jewelry packaging last year to feature a luxury box, sleeve design, and a mini meditation card. The meditation cards that come with each piece of jewelry are to be kept somewhere close to the wearer as a reminder of their power and strength. These pieces make such thoughtful gifts, and we love the intentional brand message behind them. Everyone has been working hard behind the scenes and we are so excited for the new packaging to be launched in the Spring!

Miller the Label - Jenna Hill

Instagram | Facebook

Jenna, owner of the successful Frockbox; created Miller the Label. Their new household label is made for the everyday woman who wants to look and feel her best and believes style should be about wearing what you want and not the number on the tag. Miller the Label offers capsule collections, and clothes that just make you feel good. Jenna reached out to us last year to create the company’s logo and we loved her vision of size-less clothing and creating a brand that challenges the beauty standards in fashion. Visit Miller the Label to shop for clothing in an inclusive and uplifting space.

Prairie Soap Shack - Jessica Mose

Prairie Soap Shack’s goal is to reconnect people with nature and incorporate it into our everyday lives with their wildcrafted and homegrown soaps and body care. We resonate with the story behind Prairie Soap Shack and how Jessica took a pivot in her career to start her own business. Jessica reached out to the studio back in 2021 to design the packaging for her 3 step facial products. Since then, we have collaborated on product sleeves, sample boxes, soap packaging, and templates. It makes our hearts full and reminds us of why we do what we do when we see our clients succeed and be able to grow their product lines, merchants, and dreams.

The Salted team is made up of 3 moms who believe in a balance between work and date nights. Salted got in touch with the studio back in 2021 for branding and packaging design for their first holiday advent calendar. Since then, we’ve collaborated on over a dozen caramel collections. If you haven’t had the chance to try their caramels we suggest ordering some for yourself (you probably won’t want to share).

The Makers Keep - Katrina Petryshyn

Instagram | Facebook

With an undeniable passion for local and handmade goods, Katrina’s goal was to provide local businesses a place to display their product in a “market-like” environment. The idea took off and The Makers Keep just opened their fourth location in Sherwood Park. Katrina reached out to our studio in 2021 to work on their Keepsake Collection brand and apparel line. Over the years we’ve had so much fun working on tees, pins, jackets, and other apparel for the Keepsakes Collection. Additionally, we developed the brand identity for the sister company Unite by TMK. We are always cheering on The Makers Keep's continued success and it has been an honour to watch this company grow.

The Spa At Ambleside – Joy Oco

Instagram | Facebook

Joy’s story is so inspiring, and we were honored when she contacted the studio to help her with the spa’s branding, stationery, and digital media. When Joy’s husband passed away from cancer in 2018, Joy decided to leave the construction industry and enter the health and beauty sector. While grieving, she was searching for a space to unwind and recharge and found there was a gap in the market for what she was looking for. She opened The Spa at Ambleside for everybody and anybody to have a space to focus on self-care and indulgence. The Spa at Ambleside officially opened its doors in February and Joy’s vision is now a flawless reality.

The Violet Chocolate Company - Rebecca Grant & Maryanne Bejcar

The Violet Chocolate Company came to life in 2012 from Rebecca's desire to create chocolate with adventurous flavours, quality ingredients, and artisanal practices. Pulling from her experience as a Red Seal Chef, Rebecca’s creations are unlike anything you’ve tried before. Today, the company is run by Rebecca and her best friend Maryanne. The Violet Chocolate Company has won 37 National and 13 International Chocolate Awards – so we promise you it's damn good chocolate. We’ve been honoured to collaborate with The Violet Chocolate Company to design their annual advent calendar and their valentines day 24-days-of-love. We look forward to working with the team every year and is a time to reflect and create something that encompasses the year through the design.

Unbelts - Claire Theaker-Brown

Instagram | Facebook

Unbelts discovered a problem with how clothes fit and then created a solution. Unbelts designs comfortable belts that fit your body exactly as you are today, and exactly how you might be in a few months or years. With a focus on inclusivity, comfort, and sustainability you can always feel good about your Unbelt. Claire reached out to the studio for a brand refresh last year, and we couldn’t have been more excited. You can feel the passion and the perfection in everything Unbelts creates, and we had to make sure the brand refresh reflected that – and we nailed it. Make sure to keep an eye out for the full brand refresh and a redesign of their packaging!

Women & Wealth Gala - Connected Creative

In the last two years, we’ve had the privilege of collaborating with the event coordinator Connected Creative for the annual Women in Wealth Gala. We have been a gala sponsor for the past two years, designing all of the print and digital materials for the event and working with Hannah, the owner of Connected Creative, to ensure the gala’s brand is on point. Celebrating women-owned businesses as well as being able to use our design skills for a good cause is something that is fulfilling and we love doing.
